Andrew Hyslop and Barbara Zinter met while working at summer jobs as lifeguards at Miette Hot Springs in Jasper National Park in 1972. It was the beginning of a wonderful life together. Andrew was a lawyer for Petro-Canada and Barbara was a librarian with Suncor Energy. They established the Andrew Hyslop and Barbara Zinter Award for Lifeguarding in recognition of the benefits of lifeguarding and lifesaving programs. Through these programs, students may seek employment as a lifeguard, supporting them financially as they pursue post-secondary education. In addition to learning about water safety, through lifeguarding individuals learn responsibility that directly impacts development of their self-confidence. Lifeguarding can be a fun job, often outdoors, where students have an opportunity to meet others with similar interests.
