The bursary(s), in the amount of $500 is/are available to students who, in the year of the award, have completed the requirements for an Alberta High School Diploma.

The purpose of this award(s) is to provide monetary incentive for students to continue their studies beyond the senior high school level, in programs of at least two years duration, leading to either diplomas or degrees in an approved post-secondary school, college, university, or institute of technology. This bursary(s) is earned during the grade 12 year, but will become payable when proof of registration at an approved institution of post-secondary education has been received within one year of receiving the award.

Eligibility for Award:

1. Academic Achievement:
Students must qualify for an Alberta High School diploma with a grade 12 average of 65% or better. Emphasis will be placed on Math 30, 31, and 33 marks.

2. Citizenship Qualities:
The applicant will have demonstrated outstanding citizenship qualities as revealed by participation in class. Emphasis should be given to the student who brings out the best in other students and who has the happy faculty of getting along with staff and students. His/her peers must respect the student. Attention should also be given to the student’s involvement in an athletic program(s).

3. Financial Need:
These bursaries are for students of superior ability, who through financial assistance, might be encouraged to under-take post-secondary education.

4. Students must register at a post-secondary institution within one year of the award.

Selection of Award Winners:

In the spring of each year, online application forms will be made available through EducationMatters website. Counsellors, Math and Physical Education teachers will be asked to encourage likely candidates for this award, and to request that each candidate, with the help of his/her parent(s) or Guardian(s), complete the online application form at www.educationmatters.ca before May 30.

Selection Committee:

A selection committee comprised of the following will choose the winner of this award and inform the chosen student by June 15.

Presentation of Award:

The award will be presented at the school’s discretion either in a spring or fall award evening (or day).

Plaque:

A plaque will be held in Crescent Heights High School with five years winners noted on it and replaced with the next year’s winner after five years. The winner’s nomination form will be sent to the coordinator of scholarships so that formal acknowledgement may be made by the Calgary Board of Education. No monies will be given to the winner until proof of registration, at an approved post-secondary institute is received by the coordinator of scholarships, Calgary Board of Education.
