Types of Gifts
EducationMatters believes in giving our students the best possible experience. That is why we are asking you to help put the ‘public’ back into public education by supporting EducationMatters. All gifts made are part of the solution to giving our students what they need to be successful in life.
EducationMatters offers two types of funds to direct your gift: Endowment Funds and Flow-Though Funds.
Endowment funds preserve the principal gift in perpetuity and create a legacy; grants are made from interest earned on the principal over the years.
Flow-through funds are spent within two years and are immediately put towards projects to support students.
It’s your donation – choose how you want to use it. Your funds can be directed to establishing a new fund or award, contributing to any one of our existing funds or awards, or you can donate to to the current area of greatest need. Below you will find many different giving options to choose from. No matter the size of gift, type of gift, or where it is directed, you will be helping to enrich the experience of Calgary’s public education students.
Card, Cash, and Cheque Donations
You can securely donate
online using a credit card or, alternately, fill in a
Donation Form with your card details and mail it to our office.
Cheques (made payable to EducationMatters) can also be sent via mail along with a
Donation Form.
For cash donations, please come to the CBE Education Building and see the wonderful folks on the Information Desk.
Online donations will receive a tax receipt via email immediately after your donation is processed; other donations will receive a tax receipt in the mail.

Gifts in Honour or Memory
A gift in honour of a person, significant occasion, or important milestone, or in memory of a loved one can easily be made
online or by
mail. If you would like to talk to someone about setting up a fund honouring a person or event, please contact
Helen Nowlan-Walls.
Legacy Gifts
Legacy gifts are typically bequests that are made through a person’s will. A Legacy Gift needs to be planned with family and appropriated professionals to ensure that your wishes are clear – it is also recommended to communicate your wishes directly to the organization(s) you plan to support to help them properly steward your gift in the future. Legacy gifts can also be made during a person’s lifetime, generally through a gift of assets or real estate.

Gifts of Shares or Stock Options
EducationMatters welcomes your donation of publicly traded shares and stock options. For more information speak to your financial advisor, visit the
Canada Revenue Agency website for more information, and
contact us to discuss your wishes.
Fundraising Event
Organizing a fundraising event (e.g. garage sale, alumni reunion, dinner or other event) is an excellent way to raise money for public education. Read our
guidelines and complete our
Event Registration Form. Please contact us for review and approval before the event.
