The Niitsitapi Learning Centre is a unique school that focuses on Early Education for Indigenous students. Children from Kindergarten to Grade Two get a head start on learning while nurturing their cultural background. The Centre teaches the Alberta Program of Studies through First Nations, Métis and Inuit perspectives and experiences.
One of EducationMatters’ primary mandates is providing grants to benefit CBE students; last year Niitsitapi was the recipient of a grant to support a Milk Program. Through donations made to EducationMatters, Niitsitapi received over 100 cartons of milk every week for the entire 2017/2018 school year!
This year, EducationMatters is working hard to ensure that Niitsitapi’s preschoolers will have new play activities in time for the 2019/2020 school year; there are currently very few age-appropriate outdoor play options for the younger Niitsitapi students and we intend to change that with the support of donors.
You may think that play equipment has no significance to early learning, however research has proven that play is an important part of the education process. Play has a major impact on cognitive development in young children, helping to develop fine and gross motor, social and problem solving skills that provide a solid foundation for their learning in future grades. Investing in a good start to educational life for these future leaders is one that we won’t regret making.
With your help, Niitsitapi will receive new play equipment and apparatus including a mini water channel stand, pretend house bricks, giant polydron construction sets and outdoor mark-making daisies to help their preschoolers have even more fun while they learn and grow in a nurturing, dynamic environment.
Please support Niitsitapi by donating today!
