The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) Welcome Centre is a beacon of support for newcomers to Canada. It serves as a supportive hub for thousands of new CBE students and their families every year, offering essential guidance, resources, language learning assessments, and a warm welcome.
The CBE Welcome Centre provides crucial assistance to families who are new to the city, helping them with registration and paperwork. Beyond that, for low-income families, the Welcome Centre also provides backpacks, school supplies, English language learning books, and sometimes even weather-appropriate clothing to ensure every student is set up for success.
In the 2022/2023 school year, the CBE experienced an unexpected influx of new student enrollment, with over 5800 new students welcomed, including more than 650 children from Ukraine. The Calgary Board of Education expects to welcome another 7000 new students this year, which is enough to fill 22 elementary schools! As a result, resources at the CBE Welcome Centre need bolstering. We need your support to help welcome these students home to our city.
