To foster fun, sportsmanship, and physical activity, Dr George Stanley’s Parent Council is raising funds to add walls to the Gaga platforms and to install an outdoor 9 Square in the Air structure.
Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit and is dubbed a kinder, gentler version of dodgeball. The game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Players need to keep moving to avoid getting hit by the ball. Fun and easy, everyone gets a serious workout.
9 Square in the Air is a 3×3 grid volleyball type game where the player in the centre serves the ball to start the game. Each of the other players must hit the ball out of the top of their square into another square. If a player hits the ball out of bounds, more than once, or fails to get the ball into another square, they are out. Play continues until all players are eliminated.
Having these structures will assist the school in their “away for the day” no-phones initiative by keeping our students engaged with each other in the real world. These structures will also be available to students, their families, and the greater community outside of school hours, making the outdoor space of Dr. George Stanley School a hub for building relationships, meeting new people, and fostering community spirit.
