Marshall Springs will host a day of Indigenous and cultural learning for 350+ students and 30+ staff from a number of schools in the CBE. The day will include several workshops based on creative expression, and traditional arts & culture, including traditional drumming, tipi teachings, spoken word, Pow-wow dancing, Bhangra dancing, calligraphy, and more. All workshops will be led by Indigenous Elders and knowledge keepers, and BIPOC teaching artists in Calgary. We will also lead up to this event with relevant workshops and presentations for teachers and students throughout the school year. Funds raised beyond our $10000 goal will go towards funding these lead up sessions, as well as purchasing supporting resources and learning materials.
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen community and increase sense of belonging for students, staff, and guests at Marshall Springs by increasing the diverse representation and inclusion within our physical space and teaching practices. This will help make Marshall Springs a more diverse and inclusive learning environment, where all community members feel connected and understand their importance.
