Over the past twenty years a wonderful community leader named Ernie Tsu has coached the SR Girls Volleyball Team at Western Canada High School alongside school staff.  This year he decided to retire from this volunteer position. To honor the unwavering commitment and leadership Ernie has exemplified, the community of parents, former students, and teachers have established the Ernie Tsu Leadership Award.

In honoring the unwavering commitment and leadership Ernie Tsu has exemplified while coaching the senior women’s volleyball team at Western Canada,  this award is presented to a senior female volleyball player who has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and coachability throughout the season. The recipient of this award exemplifies the following criteria for leadership qualities:

  • Commitment and Dedication
  • Resilience and Perseverance
  • Discipline
  • Teamwork and Cooperation
  • Coachability

A strong preference will be given to a student-athlete planning to pursue volleyball at the post-secondary level. However, it is not mandatory to continue playing volleyball; enrollment in any accredited institution is sufficient. While academic achievements and volleyball skills will be evaluated, the primary criterion for this scholarship is the demonstration of exceptional leadership qualities.

To apply, please submit a 250-500 word essay describing your suitability for this award along with a letter of reference from any sport coach or mentor you have worked closely with during your sport development.
